Amanda watched the screen as the pinnaces launched and began heading for the orbital stations around Glen Arbor. Sheâd had her communications officer send notifications to each one, warning them that defiance would be met with lethal force. Hopefully, theyâd listen. If not, theyâd die.
The group of pinnaces that had departed for the shipyard was most of the way there by now. If things wrapped up quickly here at Glen Arbor, theyâd go provide backup. Should things take longer, the Marines would handle things on their own, and theyâd stop to pick everyone up once it was done.
There was a possibility that the cruisers inside the shipyard would fire their weapons, but the Marines would take care to keep the shipyard infrastructure between the vessels contained within it and themselves. They would board the shipyard and then make their way into the cruisers. If any of those ships ran, Hunter would intercept them in normal space. If she couldnât, theyâd discover that the battleship could use her hyperdrive to beat them to the gate.
The ships that were fleeing the system through the gate had already departed. There would be surprises, but she intended to be ready for resistance. Also, she was more than ready to cause a little chaos down on Glen Arbor itself. None of her people were in the same league as Lisa Gane, but they werenât slouches either. As soon as they had control over one of the stations and could seize the communications array, she would have a lot of fun.
To her relief, none of the orbital stations resisted her Marines. The administrative personnel at the very top had fled down to the planetâs surface, but there were still plenty of people to arrest. The Marines and Sara Nastasiâs admin personnel took care of picking up all the broken pieces and trying to put everything back together again.
According to the briefing that sheâd gotten from General Turner, they would leave more than enough pinnaces to be certain that anyone who tried to retake the orbitals would face destruction. So long as they were in control, the people on the planet werenât going anywhere. They were interdicted.
Or maybe blockaded was the right word. Was this really a blockade? Maybe. The intent was to allow trade to resume throughout the rest of their isolated little bubble once theyâd seized control of everything, but until that point, nothing would be allowed in or out.
Just in case they ran into something unexpected, the Marines were setting up antimatter missile launchers on the orbitals themselves. That might invite hostile fire, but these were defensive measures meant to keep everyone safe. If the Poseidon Group snuck cruisers back into the system, they needed to be able to defend themselves.
In all, it would take hours to secure everything, but the communications department had a team aboard the biggest orbital within half an hour of the Marines boarding it. Not everything had been locked down, but it was secure enough that with a Marine squad watching over them, they wouldnât be in any danger.
